Random

Have absolutely nothing I wish to say but for some reason felt an urge to post...

You know when you feel like you have to say *something* to someone (even though, as in this case, no-one is actually listening), regardless of what it may be, just having the feeling of putting your voice out there, as a release..? Well, maybe you don't, but I had that particular itch and am unashamedly scratching it. That's pretty much the point of this blog lol...

But to provide this post with some semblance of sanity, here's a joke:

"A man walks into a bar. He says 'Ouch!' It was a metal bar"

I know, I know, everyone's heard it and after the age of 6, it's not particularly funny, BUT:

(a) I collect shite jokes. In my opinion, "good" jokes are rarely very funny. I love stand up routines, adore them actually, but that isn't about telling jokes, it's about a longer, protracted narrative which makes you laugh. Jokes tend to make you smile, if that, and little more. As such, I much more prefer really bad one liners, the kind that make you cringe, the kind that are so bad that it's the badness you laugh at and not the punchline itself... It's been a long standing hobby of mine to collect such doozies =]

(b) This particular steamer has become a (somewhat private) running theme with my web persona (and it would there be rude to exclude it from this blog lol)... For the past 6 or so years I've tweeted this joke every couple of months with the comment "some things require regular repetition to avoid fading into obscurity...". After a while, I started contracting the joke to some thing like "man, bar, said 'ouch', metal bar" but always with the same suffixed comment. I'm not sure non-Brits have the same affinity with this joke (or even non-Northeners) but for me it was the de facto one liner when growing up. As stupid as it sounds, it feels like a part of my heritage just as much as my native folk music, my native dialect and my local history... It would be a travesty should it be forgotten because no-one said it anymore... I may not contribute much to this world, but I will keep that terrible joke alive as long as I am able =] pml

Well, for having had nothing to say, this may actually be the longest post to date! Woop... lol.

Anyway, scratch sufficiently itched. =D
